About Robert Karl Berta

Robert Karl Berta (b. 1947) is a past president (1995-97) of the nearly 400 member San Francisco Bay Area Accordion Club (BAAC) and is currently the newsletter editor. Music is one of the major loves of his life and he started playing accordion at the age of 9 and organ at the age of 11. He played organ professionally for the Conn organ company while in high school and college. He plays both accoustic piano accordion and, his favorite instrument, the MIDI accordion.

Mr. Berta enjoys all musical styles but especially classical, fusion jazz, broadway and stage musicals, big band, new age, alternative and Russian music. He said that if he had it to do all over he would have learned to play a 5 row chromatic button accordion with free bass.... and he claims that he still might do it!

Mr. Berta currently works as a Safety Manager for a utility company in California. He also owns a photo studio. Some of his activities include bicycle riding, racing and touring, car racing (used to road race SCCA sports cars and currently runs two NHRA drag race cars with his son and another person), and backpacking. He has a small recording studio that produces digital recordings.

Mr. Berta's entire family is musical. His wife Nancy is an alumnus of Interlochen in Michigan and the University of Michigan music program with a degree in music performance. She is a very fine classical pianist who has performed but is currently in "semi retirement" with the two youngest children.

Mr. Berta's oldest son is a classical and electric guitar player, the oldest daughter is a very fine flute player. The two youngest children enjoy singing and "playing" along with dad, mom and big sister on the piano, keyboard, theatre organ, harmonica, recorder or their small Hero accordion.
