June 26, 2025: Henry won the $100 prize for the Best Player Rated Under 1800 at the Five-Round North County Chess Club Thursday Nights Tournament (No. 70) in Oceanside, California. He tied for 6th-7th-8th and 9th place. Fifty chess players competed in the tournament.
Henry reports, “Interestingly enough, THREE of our Temecula Chess Club Players won prize money at this tournament. Mighty Marius won $200 for his impressive 1st-place result and 11-year-old Justice won $100 for Best Player Rated Under 1600. Way to go, Temecula Chess Club members!”

Prize winners.
Following is Henry’s game in Round 5 against Jim Boyd (rating 1846). This is the final position (after 68.Ke5 ). Henry says, “We agreed to a draw, and the position is certainly a draw. I am down a pawn, but white can make no progress due to bishops of opposite colors. I thought it was a terrific battle. He had the upper hand throughout the entire game, I had some weak pawns, but he was not able to win. I am happy to battle to a draw with a higher-rated opponent. After this draw, I had achieved two wins, two draws and a bye in this tournament, which resulted in my winning the $100 prize for Best Player Under 1800.”

Jim Boyd, white vs. Henry Doktorski, black, after 68.Ke5.
